Tunza’s Pride is a St. Helens based charity – U.K. registration number 1126994. Founded by St Helens born Ian Smith, the charity was first set up in November 2004. We work to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and young people in the St Helens area and the North West of England by providing support, activities and in some instances financial assistance. We aim to raise the confidence and self-esteem of young people by offering a variety of experiences be it taking part in initiatives, weekly activities, school holiday clubs and many other schemes, based mostly at our very own Social Enterprise in St Helens, “The Tunza Centre” which opened for the first time in January 2014.

Tunza encourages the community, children, young people and adults alike to think of and help others less fortunate with our main focus being children & young people.

pride award
Ian was awarded The Pride of St Helens Fundraiser of the Year in 2013 for his work in raising the funds and piecing together The Tunza Centre project – a proud moment for our charity.

Our mascot is Tunza the Lion who attends many events each year. He regularly features in our Family Night celebrations and was born on 15th November 2004….. the same day as our charity !image

‘Tunza’ is the Swahili word for “caring for” and the ethos of the group is the care and welfare of people in our Community, especially vulnerable children and young people. Our work stretches throughout the St. Helens borough, as well as the whole of the North West.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of Directors and Trustees as well as many Volunteers who work tirelessly with Tunza’s Founder, Ian Smith to help generate the income required to maintain and develop our work. If you think you can help us in any way please get in touch with Ian on 07739039177 or via thetunzacentre@gmail.com
